Stars of the South

In 2006, the Irish America Magazine and the Keenan’s Kids Foundation established the “Stars of the South” award ceremony and fundraiser in recognition of the rich Irish and Scotch Irish heritage in the South.

Once a year, the Keenan’s Kids Foundation in conjunction with Irish America Magazine, hosts a black tie honoree ceremony in Atlanta to celebrate those outstanding Irish Americans and Scotch Irish who exemplify accomplishments and success in their given fields.

While there are no set categories, honorees have included philanthropists, artists, business leaders, charity workers and volunteers, members of the service industry and armed forces, members of police and fire departments, and outstanding members of academia.

Past honoree’s include Archbishop John Donoghue, Mayor Shirley Franklin, Secretary Richard Riley, Timothy Cambias, Tom Shannon, Donald Keough, Kevin Conboy, James Kelly, Senator John Edwards, Alison Brown and the Murphy Family

All proceeds from the 2011 dinner will be donated to the Community Foundation of Greater Atlanta in order to support Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed’s “Centers of Hope”.
